Update 16/12/2017: Read Dead Redemption II weapon unlockable in GTA Online

Original article:

The Doomsday Heist update includes a wide range of new content and changes, from fast cars and guns to jetpacks, paying for Lester wanted level removal changing to a free service, to the total number of outfit slots being doubled and everything in between. In this article, we cover it all.

The Doomsday Heist was finally released earlier this week and is available for download on all three supported platforms (PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4). The heist is broken down into three main “acts,” with each one progressing in difficulty. According to GTA V o’Clock hosts James Jarvis and Dan Dawkins, who were able to play the update early with Rockstar Games, the first act alone takes an estimated five hours to complete, with each act arguably being a heist in and of itself. For additional details on what is included in this update, you can check out GTA V o’Clock’s video breaking it all down, down below or click here to view the official patch notes.

Major changes

Facilities have been added to GTA Online. Facilities are properties that give players access to the Doomsday Heist and acts as a storage space for the new Mammoth Avenger. Players can purchase a Facility from the Maze Bank Foreclosures website from a choice of 9 locations. Facilities can be customized with a choice of Style and Graphics. Optional add-ons such as an Orbital Cannon, Security Room, Lounge, Privacy Glass and Sleeping Quarters are also available. Facilities come with space for up to 7 personal vehicles and has dedicated spaces for a selection of the new fully weaponized vehicles.

The Doomsday Heist has been added to GTA Online. Upon purchasing a Facility, players can begin the Doomsday Heist by approaching the Planning Screen inside. The Doomsday Heist consists of 3 acts, each comprised of new Prep Missions, Setups and Finales and includes new Criminal Mastermind and Elite Challenges.

The Mammoth Avenger has been added to GTA Online. The Avenger can be purchased from the Warstock Cache and Carry website and can be customized with a choice of interiors. Optional add-ons such as a Gun Turret, a Vehicle Workshop and a Weapon Workshop can also be purchased. Players must own a Facility before purchasing the Avenger.

The majority of the main items added to Grand Theft Auto Online in this update are as follows:

Fully weaponized vehicles:

  1. Mammoth Thruster
  2. Imponte Deluxo
  3. Ocelot Stromberg
  4. RCV
  5. HVY Chernobog
  6. Barrage
  7. TM-02 Khanjali
  8. Buckingham Akula
  9. Volatol
  10. The Pfister Comet Safari was also added in this update. However, it is listed as being “optionally weaponized.” A total of five additional high-end vehicles has also been included in this update. They are:
  11. Ubermacht SC1
  12. Vapid Riata
  13. Ocelot Pariah
  14. Declasse Yosemite
  15. Coil Raiden

Also added in this update were “Mk II” weapons, (including Mk II variants of the Pump Shotgun, Special Carbine, Marksman Rifle, Heavy Revolver, Bullpen Rifle, and SNS Pistol), 20 new clothing items for characters of both sexes, 30 new tattoos, and 26 new face paints.

Lester free?

Lester is an interesting character from the single-player campaign of Grand Theft Auto V who also makes appearances within Grand Theft Auto Online, helping players during various missions and heists. However, he also exists as an in-game player phone contact who can be called to order various services – at a cost. One of these services is the ability to remove a player’s “wanted level,” which is gained through partaking in various illicit activities within the world of Los Santos and Blaine County – or just from looking in the general direction of a cop for too long. According to the official patch notes of the update, if a player completes the Doomsday heist in its entirety, the ability to use the in-game character named Lester to remove their wanted level will be made permanently free.

Outfit save slots

So-called “fashion shows” have become a regular occurrence for some members within the GTA Online community who wish to share their latest style combinations (or abominations). A common complaint that players in this segment of the community have previously expressed was the fact that the number of outfits that players could save in “outfit save slots” was too few, relative to the number of clothing items that have been added in the 41 previous updates to GTA Online. That issue has now been resolved, for a while at least, as the number of outfit save slots available has now been doubled to 20.

Hidden Treasure?

Update: There has been an update regarding this, please read Read Dead Redemption II weapon unlockable in GTA Online. In short, the challenge and scavenger hunt are now unlocked. Collect the four clues, and then you can collect the revolver. Once the revolver has been collected, then you can complete the 50 headshot challenge to unlock the revolver in Red Dead Redemption II and receive 250,000 GTA$ in GTA Online.

3D models have been found in the game’s updated files, which appear to be cowboy themed in nature. This has sparked fan theories and debate on Twitter and other platforms as to what the models may be used for. A description of an unused “challenge” has also been found in the files, adding further fuel to the fire. The best guess that the community has come up with to date is that the models, which include a revolver and treasure chest, are Easter eggs (possibly hidden treasure) about Rockstar Games’ other main video game series, Red Dead, and its upcoming new installment, Red Dead Redemption II.

“Because sometimes revenge is a dish best served six times, in quick succession, right between the eyes. Sign up to the Rockstar Games Social Club to get access to the Double Action Revolver Head Shot Challenge. Beating this challenge will unlock GTA$ and an exclusive variation of the weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2.”

Miscellaneous

  • Players now can control the doors of personal aircraft via the “Door Control” Interaction Menu option. Alas, a new radio station called “blonded Los Santos 97.8 FM” has been added to both Single Player and GTA Online.
  • This latest update has also added eight new achievements/trophies to GTA Online as well as some fixes to various bugs – defects in software’s code which results in unexpected (usually undesirable) behavior.

As to whether or not anything will come of the models being found in the game files any time soon is anyone’s guess at this point.
